Is chiropractic for children safe?
Yes! Chiropractic for children is safe, very beneficial and effective. The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association has a plethora of research articles on how safe chiropractic is for children and during pregnancy.
In many cases, the first traumatic experience a child endures is the birth process. According to Medscape, there are 6-8 injuries reported per 1000 births. The number is likely much higher as some injuries do not show signs immediately and babies are unable to articulate symptoms at this point. Dr. Gutman, a medical researcher, concluded that over 80 percent of the babies he examined shortly after birth were suffering from cervical spine injuries.1 Dr. Abraham Towbin, from the Dept. of Pathology at Harvard Med, presented research at the 18th Annual Meeting of the American Academy For Cerebral Palsy. His research found that “the birth process, even under optimal conditions, is potentially a traumatic, crippling event for the fetus.” 1 It is very important that a Doctor of Chiropractic check a baby as close as possible to the birth process to make sure the neck didn’t sustain vertebral subluxations and to adjust them if they are present.
Getting beyond the birth process itself, look how many falls children take during the first few years of life, learning to walk, climbing and “just being a kid”. We have to move away from symptom-treating and realize that these traumatic insults to the spine do cause small injuries that often result in larger problems later in life. Regular chiropractic for children is an awesome way to make sure their little nervous systems are functioning at optimal levels. Chiropractic, just like medicine, has never healed anyone. Chiropractic simply removes the interference to the body’s inborn ability to heal. If a person is alive and has nerve interference, they are better off without the interference… This applies to newborns, toddlers as well as grandmas and grandpas. Get your entire family in and get checked and maintain an optimally functioning nervous system.
